Free Clinic to Participate in
Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community
Johnstown, PA― The Johnstown Free Medical Clinic, located at 340 Main Street, will participate in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Central Park in downtown Johnstown.
The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is a fundraiser that benefits local health and human service agencies in Central Pennsylvania, including the Johnstown Free Medical Clinic. The event includes a 5K or One-Mile Fun Walk, raffle drawings, games and live entertainment for the participants. There is no registration fee. However, walkers are encouraged to raise funds for the Free Clinic.
Individual participants or teams can register now at www.walkforahealthycommunity.org and raise funds to support the Free Clinic.
Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield underwrites the cost of the walk so that 100 percent of the money raised by the walkers goes directly to the participating organizations.
In 2013, the Johnstown Free Medical Clinic had more than 3400 patient encounters and provided over 6,000 prescriptions valued at $1.75 million to those in need. The Free Clinic offers free medical and pharmaceutical care to the low income, uninsured population in the Laurel Highlands region of Western PA using volunteer professional staff.
